A Brief History of Tulum
Tulum, which means “wall” in Mayan, was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya people. Flourishing during the late Postclassic period (around AD 1200-1521), it was a significant trading hub, thanks to its strategic coastal position. The city’s fortifications, consisting of high walls, protected it from invaders, which is relatively unique among Mayan sites.
